What started it all?
Summer 1993, the installation argument of the Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos statues.
Both statues are in the community. The bronze statue is located at La Casita in Paseo Boricua.
The concrete statue is located on the streets of California and LeMoyne.

Who conducted the project?
The project manager is John Dix. The project designer is Edward Windhorst. Both men are from the DeStefano + Partners Company.

What are the flags made of? Why?
Steel because is represents the first Puerto Rican migration. When Puerto Ricans came to the U.S., most went to work in steel mills and pipelines.

How much time was given to do the project? 5 months.

Are they graffiti proof? They were made to be graffiti proof.

Do they need a lot of maintenance? No.

How often do the flags get painted? Every 15 to 20 years.

How many parts do the flags have? 3 ; the mass, pennant, and tubes.

How may layers of paint do the flags need? 4 layers ; Zinc dust, Epoxy, Polyurethane, and a clear coat of Ultraviolet Protective paint.

What is the foundation system? Caissons

How long did it take to assemble? A month.

How strong are the flags? Can take 75 mph winds. In Chicago, that happens once every fifty years. The flags are filled with 15 feet of concrete at the mass.

What are the dimensions? 55 ft. 7 inches. tall. 56 ft. across.

How much does it weigh? 30 tons.

How much did the project cost? $ 1,250,000 ; including other community additions.
